Graduate Financial Aid
Graduate students and applicants can apply for assistantships, fellowships, and other awards to help cover the cost of their education.
University Assistantships and Fellowships
All graduate student assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis, subject to availability of funds. The Department offers a funding package that includes a stipend, tuition, and fringe benefits:
- Students pursuing a Master of Arts (MA) in Geography are typically awarded between one and four semesters of support.
- Students pursuing a Ph.D. in Geography are prioritized and may be awarded up to eight semesters of support beyond the MA level.
Graduate assistantships, including teaching assistantships and research assistantships, range from 50% (10 hours per week) to 100% (20 hours per week) of available time. Research assistantships are mostly funded by individual faculty members, with research grants that provide funding for assistants.
Please note we do not currently offer financial support to students enrolled in our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Graduate Certificate Program.
