Geography

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geography allow students to analyze the interactions between people and their environments. Students will explore timely topics such as urban sprawl, the nature and impact of migration, health disparities, globalization of the economy and international trade, regional development, watershed and landscape change, global climatic change, and more.

Geographic Information Science

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geographic Information Science (GIS) enable students to develop spatial thinking capability. Students gather in-depth knowledge in geospatial technology, a range of modern tools contributing to geographic mapping and analysis of the Earth and human societies, such as geographic information systems, remote sensing, and more.

Urban and Community Studies

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Urban and Community Studies focuses on educating citizens on the multiple dimensions of urban and community life. It integrates the study of cities, suburbs, neighborhoods, and communities through core courses drawn from fields across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and offers a solid foundation in analytical techniques. Students can choose to create a personalized degree plan within the major based on their own academic interests, or they may choose to follow a specific emphasis area. Examples include urban and regional planning, social service and community organizing, and public policy.

Environmental Studies

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Environmental Studies is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to understand the interactions between human societies and their environments. Students may specialize their interests in environmental sustainability, public policy and environmental justice, global and local food systems, and more. CLAS and the College of Agriculture, Heath and Natural Resources (CAHNR) jointly offer this major.

Minors

We offer five minors in geography, geographic information science, urban and community studies, environmental studies, and sustainable community food systems. A minor can complement your undergraduate degree, allow you to explore your interests, and help you gain skills for a fulfilling life and career.
